Golfers Finish Eighth At Hampden-Sydney Invitational

FARMVILLE, Va. -- The Apprentice School golf team rebounded from a rough first round to shoot a 312 on Tuesday to move up two spots and finish eighth in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational at The Manor Golf Course in Farmville.

For the tournament the Builders shot 652 to finish eighth in the event.  Averett University won the event with a 300 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 603.  First round leader Bridgewater College was second at 607, followed by Hampden-Sydney A (619), Randolph-Macon (620) and Washington & Lee (637) to round out the top five.

Freshman Ben Hunter shot an even-par 72 to finish the event tied for eighth with a 152 total.  Senior Wade Traynham was next with a 75 on Tuesday for a 161 total to finish tied for 30th.  Fellow senior Daniel Campbell shot 84 on Tuesday to finish at 170 and tied for 44th.

The 312 round for the Builders was the fourth lowest on Tuesday, with Lynchburg equalling it and Washington & Lee shooting one stroke under it.

Apprentice School now will travel to State College, Pa. on October 11-12 for the 2010 U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships to be held on the Blue Course at Penn State University.
