Golf Team Ends Fall Season 17th at O'Briant-Jensen Memorial

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Apprentice School golf team ended its fall season on Tuesday with a 17th place finish at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.  A second round 355 gave the Builders a two-day total of 709.

Freshman Ben Hunter finished tied for 26th place to lead the Builders with a 78 on Tuesday for a 155 two-day total.  Senior Daniel Campbell was next with a two-day total of 176.

The host Guilford College Quakers won the event with a four-over-par 284 final round to take the title by eight strokes over Methodist University and nine over cross-town rival Greensboro College.

This event featured several of NCAA Division III's top-25 teams, according to the Sept. 30 Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches Poll, including three of the top-seven squads. Top-ranked Greensboro, third-ranked Methodist and seventh-ranked Guilford made this a challenging fall tournament. Six schools are ranked among the top-32 teams in the current Golfstat.com Division III ratings.

The O'Briant-Jensen returned to the renovated Pete Dye-designed Cardinal Golf and Country Club in 2008 following two years at the Greensboro Country Club. Guilford first hosted the tournament from 1978-87 when it was called the Guilford College Invitational. It is named for longtime Guilford golf supporters Tom & Bettie O'Briant as well former Guilford golf mentor Jack Jensen, who died suddenly last March in the midst of his 33rd season as the Quakers' golf coach.
