Golf Team Opens Fall Schedule With Dual Match Win

HAMPTON, VA. – Sophomore Ben Hunter picked up where he left off as a freshman carding a 73 to win medalist honors as the Apprentice School won a dual match with Southern Virginia University at The Woodlands on Friday.

Hunter shot his 73 to lead the Apprentice School Maroon team to a 305 team total.  Senior Kyle Radcliff was next with a 74, followed by sophomore Kyle Mutter (77) and junior Blake Henger (81).

The gold team for the Builders was paced by sophomore Curtis Newsome who was third overall in his first match with the Builders with a 75 over the 5,391-yard Woodlands course.  Sophomore Will Smith was next for the gold team at 80.

Southern Virginia University, who brought golf back after several years in hiatus, was paced by Jake Messerly who was fifth overall at 78.

Apprentice School travels now to New York for a weekend as they will have a dual match with the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Thursday at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn Harbor, N.Y.
