Golfers Take Third At Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – The Apprentice School golf team dropped eight strokes off their Monday team score, but remained steady in the standings to finish in third place at the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial Tournament at Williamsburg Club.

Lynchburg College held off a charging Ferrum Panther squad for the team title.  The Hornets, who shot 311 on Monday, combined for a 318 on Tuesday to edge Ferrum by two strokes.  The Panthers shot a 314 on Tuesday to finish with 631.  The Builders shot a 322 round on Tuesday to finish at 652, while Randolph-Macon College took fourth (654) and Louisburg College rounded out the top five with a 668.Ferrum's Scott Obenshain won the medalist honor over Conrad Anguera of Lynchburg on the second hole of a playoff with a par.

Sophomore Ben Hunter was the best finisher for the Builders as he took third place after a five-over-par 76 on the 6,751-yard course for a 154 total.  Fellow sophomore Kyle Mutter joined him in the top five finishing fifth with the low round for the Builders on Tuesday at three-over-par 74 for a 155 total.  Senior Kyle Radcliff was next in line for the Builders after a pair of 85 rounds left him tied for 23rd place. 

Apprentice School put a second team into the field and they shaved six strokes off their Monday round for a 379 to finish in ninth place.  Freshman Curtis Newsome was the low man for that team with a pair of 93 rounds to be tied for 37th place.  Three shots behind him was fellow freshman Forrest Barefoot with a 95 for a 189 to tie teammate Michael Hastings for 39th.

The Builders will close out their 2011-12 season at the Roanoke Invitational at the Roanoke Country Club on April 14-15.
