Golf Team Breaks Records In Season-Ending Event - Hunter Earns Medalist Honor In Playoff

ROANOKE, VA. – The Apprentice School golf team finished its 2011-12 season on Sunday as they shot a 317 team total to finish tied for fourth with a two-day total of 630 in the Roanoke College Invitational held at the Roanoke Country Club.

Sophomore Ben Hunter ended the tournament tied with Randolph-Macon's Hunter Weaver for medalist honors at three-over-par 145 following a 73 on Sunday.  The Suffolk, VA native rolled in a 30-foot put for birdie on the first playoff hole to win the medalist honor.  With his 145 over two rounds, Hunter ended his sophomore season breaking the school record for lowest scoring average in a single season with a 75.04 over 22 rounds.  The former record was held by current assistant coach B.J. Maben at 75.9.

As a team, the 630 total helped them break the single-season lowest scoring average record as they ended with a 319.95 over 22 rounds.  The former record was held by the 2006-07 team that averaged a 320.05 over 20 rounds.  They were tied with Washington & Lee University for fourth place as Bluefield State won the event with a two-day 607 total.  Following them was Stevenson (628) and Randolph-Macon College (629) to edge the Builders in the tournament.

Sophomore Kyle Mutter was the next lowest in the tournament with an 82 on Sunday for a 157 tournament score.  Senior Kyle Radcliff followed at an 83 for a 162, then freshmen Curtis Newsome (83-170) and Eric Johnston (79-171) closed out the Builders.
