Golf Team Rewrites Record Books With Tom Kinder Memorial Finish

HARRISONBURG, VA. – The Apprentice School golf team put together its second straight round of 306 on Monday to finish the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College at a 612 total for a ninth place finish out of 18 teams.

The 612 total broke the school two-round event record that was at 616 at this same tournament in 2005.  At that event, the Builders went 302-314 for its total.

Sophomore Kyle Mutter joined the record-setting day with his share of a fourth place finish after carding a one-under two-day total of 143.  His 72 on Monday helped him break the previous two-day record low of 144 shared by Steven Ness (2006-07), assistant coach BJ Maben (2007-08) and current teammate Ben Hunter who had done it as a freshman at the USCAA Nationals in 2010.  Mutter's previous two-day low was a 146 in a two-day dual with SUNY Delhi in September of 2011.

Hunter matched his career two-day low round total with a 73 on Monday for a 144 total to finish alone in eighth place to continue his solid season.  Freshman Harrison Baker was next in the standings for the Builders coming in with an 83 on Monday for a 164 to finish tied for 69thMichael Hastings was next with an 84 to finish at 167 to tie teammate Eric Johnston who shaved 11 strokes off his Sunday total coming in at 78 to end in a tie for 76th.

Milligan College of Tennessee won the event with a 290 Monday total for a 579 two-day score.  The host Bridgewater College came in second (583), followed by Washington & Lee University (590), and tied for fourth was Christopher Newport and Stevenson University (604).
