NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Apprentice School sophomore Kyle Mutter was named on Wednesday as the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Golfer of the Week following his record-setting performance at the Tom Kinder Memorial last weekend.
This marks the second time in three weeks that a member of the golf team was recognized by the USCAA after Ben Hunter was honored on September 5.
Mutter, a sophomore coating specialist apprentice from Portsmouth, Va., earned his recognition after breaking the school two-round tournament record with a 143 at the tournament hosted by Bridgewater College last weekend. He shot a one-under-par 71 on Sunday and even-par 72 on Monday to finish alone in fourth place at the 90-player event.
As a team, the Builders broke the school tournament record carding a 612 total to finish ninth in the 18-team event. The team shot 306 each day to break the previous record by four strokes.
Apprentice School will now participate in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational on September 24-25 in Farmville, Va.
