Golf Team Rebounds To Finish Eighth At Hampden-Sydney Invitational

FARMVILLE, VA. – The Apprentice School golf team rebounded from a rough first round at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational on Monday to card the second-lowest round in day two to finish eighth in the event.

The Builders, after a 347 on Monday, totaled 319 on Tuesday to move up a spot in the standings.  Only tournament winner, and host, Hampden-Sydney College shot a lower round on Tuesday as they finished with a 306 for a tournament-winning total of 610.  Bridgewater was a distant second with a 638, followed by Ferrum (650), Randolph-Macon (651) and Hampden-Sydney B (654) to round out the top five.

Junior Ben Hunter was the highest finisher for the team coming in 19th place with a 79 on Tuesday for a two-day 163 total.  Freshman Harrison Baker recorded a 79 as well on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 20th at 164.   

Sophomore Kyle Mutter was next with an 81 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 27th at 167 and freshman Eric Johnston was the final counting scorer for the Builders with an 80 to be alone in 41st place with a 172.

The golf team will turn around now and head to Danville, Va. for the Virginia State Golf Association State Championships on September 29-30 at Danville Country Club.
