Golfers Finish Tenth At VSGA Intercollegiate

DANVILLE, VA. -- The Apprentice School golf team finished the Virginia State Golf Association Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday by placing tenth in the field at Danville Golf Club.

After sitting in sixth place on Saturday with a 313 round, the Builders finished Sunday one stroke higher at 314.  Four schools who trailed them after Saturday blistered the course to overtake the Builders on Sunday.  Host Averett University won the event with a second-day of ten-over-par 290 for a 585 total.

Sophomore Kyle Mutter was the low man for the Builders in the event as he carded a two-over-par 72 on Sunday for a 148 total to finish in a tie for seventh place.  Junior Ben Hunter was next with a 77 to finish in a tie for 11th at 149.

Other Builder scorers included freshman Harrison Baker with an 82 for a 167 total (tie 49th), junior Michael Hastings with an 89 for a 169 total (52nd) and sophomore Eric Johnston with an 83 for a 172 (54th).

The Builders are now off until October 8-9 when they'll finish the fall season at the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships in State College, Pa.
