IN BRIEF

The Apprentice School shot a 314 on Tuesday, dropping four shots from its Monday round, and moved up one spot in the standings as they took third place in the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial Tournament in Williamsburg.  Junior Ben Hunter shot a school record tournament score coming in second place with a 141.

 

ON THE COURSE

  • SUNY Delhi won the tournament coming back from a three-stroke deficit after Monday to card a 305 round and a 616 total.  Last year's champion, Lynchburg College, was second with a 309 on Tuesday for a 617 total.  Robert Erhardt of Wesley College shot a four-under-par 67 on Tuesday to win the medalist honor over Hunter.
  • Hunter set a school record as he finished second with a one-over-par 72 on Tuesday for a 141 total.  He broke the mark set by teammate Kyle Mutter who shot 143 at the Tom Kinder Memorial on September 16-17, 2012.
  • For the year, Hunter broke his own school record for lowest scoring average with a 74.7 after 21 rounds in the 2012-13 season.  The previous record was his 2011-12 scoring average of 75.3 over 20 rounds.
  • Mutter joined Hunter in the top ten by finishing in eighth place after a 78 on Tuesday for a two-day 153 total.  On the year, Mutter averaged 77.8 over his 21 rounds to rank ninth on the season top ten list.
  • Sophomore Eric Johnston made the second largest leap from the Builders as he shaved nine strokes off his Monday round when he carded a 77 to finish in a tie for 23rd at 163.
  • Junior Cody Griffith was next carding an 87 on Tuesday to finish at 175 and alone in 37th place.  Sophomore Forrest Barefoot followed him with a 94 to end in 39th place with a 187.
  • Senior Blake Henger made the largest leap from day one to day two as he cut 11 strokes off his total to come in 40th place with a 189 score.

BUILDER BITS

  • The team finished the year with a 320.8 scoring average which ranks them fourth on the single-season top ten list.  Last year's team has the second lowest scoring average at 320.5, trailing the 2006-07 team that holds the record at 320.0.
  • Hunter finished the year holding the lowest single round (67), tournament score (141) and most rounds in the 60s (2) marks to go with his scoring average record 74.7.
