The Apprentice School golf team celebrated its 2012-13 accomplishments on Tuesday night with the annual Awards Banquet held at the Point Plaza Suites in Newport News.

As a team, the Builders finished in the top four in five tournaments topped by a pair of second place finishes at the Shenandoah Invitational in the fall and Immaculata Spring Invitational.  They also shot a season low round of 300 to start the year against Louisburg College in a dual match at Sleepy Hole on August 29.  In the Tom Kinder Memorial, they set a school tournament record with a 612 total.

Individually, junior Ben Hunter shot a school-record low round of 67 in that dual with Louisburg and was joined on the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association All-American team by sophomore Kyle Mutter.  Hunter was named the Glenn Heath Memorial Award recipient for the third straight year as he posted the lowest scoring average on the team at 74.67.  That broke his previous school record of 75.3 set last year.

 Also earning an award on Tuesday night was sophomore Forrest Barefoot who was named the Builder Award winner by the Apprentice Athletic Club.  Barefoot, a welder apprentice from Yorktown, played in six events in the 2012-13 season and shot a season low 89 in the Louisburg dual match and against Chowan in April.  He had three top 10 finishes this season.  The Builder award is presented to the student-athlete who has demonstrated excellence in their craft, academic and conduct during their apprenticeship, scoring on average in the top 3% of the grading scale in all three of these areas.
