Hunter Named First Team VaSID All-State College Division Golf Team

Apprentice School junior golfer Ben Hunter was named on Monday to the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State College Division first team.  This marks the first time the state association has named a men's golf All-State squad.

Hunter, a Suffolk, VA native and rigger apprentice, earned his third straight U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association All-American honor with his second place finish at the 2012 USCAA Nationals in State College, Pa. last October.  He topped the team with a 74.67 stroke average and won four events while coming in second in four others.

A couple of school records sandwiched Hunter's junior campaign.  He started the year breaking the school mark for lowest round with a 67 in a dual match against Louisburg College on August 29.  The end of his season saw him break the school mark for lowest tournament score with a 141 at the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial as he finished second with a 69-72 for a 141 score.

VaSID is comprised of sports information or athletics communications professionals from intercollegiate institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership is open to any individual affiliated with one of the state's institutions at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA and community college levels, provided that individual's area of responsibility lies within the realm of sports information.
