Builders Sit Fifth After Day One Of USCAA Nationals - Hunter Shares Lead

IN BRIEF: After a nearly 3 ½ hour rain delay to start the event, the Apprentice School golf team sits in fifth place out of 19 teams following day one of the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships Monday in State College, Pa.

Senior Ben Hunter was steady in the wet conditions as he is in a five-way tie for the lead at one-over-par 73 to lead the Builders.  The senior from Suffolk, was even-par on the front nine and one-over on the back nine.  Junior Kyle Mutter is in a four-way tie for tenth place at four-over-par 76. 

The Builders as a team sit alone in fifth place with a 326 total.  Daemen College, who won the 2012 USCAA Nationals, leads the event with a nine-over-par 297.  Lindenwood University Belleville is second (307), followed by Rochester College (310) and SUNY Canton (315) to place ahead of the Builders.

Other counting scorers for the Builders included: Michael Hastings (T52nd/88), Eric Johnston (T57th/89); Brett Denson (T64th/90) and Jordan Ritz (T68th/91).

BUILDER BITS

Senior Ben Hunter has finished no lower than third in his previous three trips to the USCAA Nationals.  He won the individual title in 2010, finished third in 2011 and second in 2012.

He shares first place with golfers from Daemen College, Lindenwood University Belleville, Rochester College and Penn College.

Mutter, who is going for his third USCAA All-American honor, has finished tied for fifth in 2011 and fourth in 2012 in his two previous USCAA National Championship appearances.
