IN BRIEF: The Apprentice School golf team closed out its 2014 fall season with a 317 round on Tuesday at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships to finish ninth out of 22 teams.
ON THE COURSE
- Senior Kyle Mutter finished his career with a 79 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 19th place with a 159 total. He finished as a three-time USCAA All-American and with the third lowest career scoring average at 78.25 over 85 rounds.
- Freshman Phillip Nelson shot the lowest round of the day for the Builders as he carded a five-over-par 77. His 161 total placed him in a tie for 23rd.
- Fellow freshman Tim Moore had a nine-stroke drop on Tuesday as he shot a six-over 78 to end with a 165 and tied for 38th.
- Freshman Toby Tapman dropped four shots from his first round as he ended with an 83 to total 170 and finish tied for 56th.
- Junior Forrest Barefoot had the largest drop of scores as he shaved 14 strokes off his Monday round with an 83 for a 180 total and tied for 81st place.
- He tied his teammate junior Chris Davis who shaved 10 strokes off his round with an 85 on Tuesday for a 180.
- Freshman Perry Barber shaved 12 strokes off his round ending his fall season with an 86 to total 184 and a tie for 87th place.
TEAM RACE
Daemen College (NY) won its third straight USCAA National Championship with a 300 round on Tuesday to total 608 and win by seven strokes. Rochester College (MI) was second after a 299 Tuesday round for a 615 total. Rounding out the top five were SUNY Delhi (623), Cleary University (624) and SUNY Canton (638).
