Lady Builders set season highs in 91-43 win over St. Joseph-Brooklyn

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Junior Rahshann Lewter scored a season-high 21 points to lead five Lady Builders in double figures as the Apprentice School defeated St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 91-43 in a United States Collegiate Athletic Association matchup on Sunday afternoon.

The visiting Lady Bears opened the scoring early jumping out to a 9-5 lead on a Tara Deahn 3-pointer with 15:51 left.  Apprentice School answered that opening blast with a 20-3 run over the next seven minutes to take a 25-12 advantage on a jumper from Tyechia Cooke with 8:13 remaining.

Following a 3-pointer from Annamarie Ciorciari that cut the lead to 25-15 at the 7:56 mark, the Lady Builders dashed any hopes of a comeback with a 15-4 run over the next 5:19 for a 40-19 advantage on a 3-point play from freshman Valleri West.  In that run were consecutive 3-pointers from freshmen Jasmine Gerald and Jessica Henderson with a pair.  Henderson hit her third 3-pointer of the opening half at the final horn to push the lead to 47-23.

In the second half, the Lady Builders shot a blistering 57.1% from the field (16-of-28) and pushed the advantage to as much as 50 points, before a late jumper from Ciorciari made the final 91-43.  For the game, Apprentice School shot a season-high 51.5% from the field (34-of-66) and hit 10-of-23 from 3-point range (43.5%).  The 10 3-pointers are the most for an Apprentice School team since January 5, 2002 when they drained 11 against Goucher College.  As a team, the Lady Builders had 26 assists which are the most since they had 27 in March of 2002 against the Lady Bears.  The 91 points are the most since a season-opening 78-54 win over Morrisville State (NY).

Henderson and West added 14 points apiece, while Cooke and Gerald chipped in 12 each for Apprentice School (7-7).  Lewter added seven assists, while Cooke had six rebounds and six steals.  Henderson had a team-high eight rebounds to go with four assists and hit all three of her 3-point shots.  Ciorciari was the leading scorer for St. Joseph's with 20 points while Julia Serewko added 10 and eight rebounds.

Next up for the Lady Builders will be a trip to Washington, D.C. next Saturday to face Trinity University at 2 pm.
