Lady Builders snap skid with 64-50 win over Norwich

NORTHFIELD, VERMONT - Senior Tyechia Cooke scored 16 points and had seven rebounds to lead three Lady Builders in double figures as the Apprentice School knocked off host Norwich University 64-50 in the first game of the Ed Hockenbury Tournament on Friday night.

Apprentice School (2-3) snaps a three-game losing streak and will face St. Lawrence University who defeated Bates University 65-42 in the 3 pm championship game Saturday afternoon.

A close first half saw the Cadets take a 33-26 lead on a 3-pointer from Erica Rate with 1:16 left.  The Lady Builders closed the half scoring the last eight points, six of which coming on a pair of Jasmine Gerald 3-pointers.  Her second one was with seven seconds left to give Apprentice School a 34-33 halftime lead. 

In the second half, Norwich scored six of the first eight points to take its last lead on an Ally Daniels jumper with 16:35 remaining at 39-36.  From that point, the Cadets were scoreless over the next 9:42 as the Lady Builders went on a 16-0 run holding Norwich to 0-for-13 from the floor in that span.  By the time Daniels scored with 6:53 left, Apprentice School was ahead 52-41 and the lead never shrunk below eight points the rest of the game.  Apprentice School's pressure defense forced the Cadets into a frigid 21.9% from the floor in the second half hitting only 7-of-32 from the floor.

Junior Rahshann Lewter added 14 points, six assists and three steals for the Lady Builders and freshman Tyisha Battle had 11 points and nine rebounds.
