BROOKLYN, NY - Sophomore Valleri West scored a career-high 31 points to lead three in double figures for the Apprentice School as they cruised to an 84-54 victory over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup on Saturday night.
The Lady Builders trailed only 3-2 as Joanna Marciniec drained a three-pointer on the first shot for St. Joseph's. From there, the Lady Builders opened the flood gates with a 21-4 run over the next 11 minutes to take a 23-7 lead on a West layup with 8:35 remaining. That lead grew to 25 points in the first half as Upenda Morton's jumper with 45 seconds left put the Lady Builders up 40-15.
In the second half Apprentice School pushed the lead to as much as 32 points on three different occasions. The Lady Builders hit 51.5% from the floor (17-of-33) while St. Joseph's hit 33.3% from the floor (13-of-39).
West, whose previous career high was 16 points against Briarcliffe last season, broke that mark in the first half as she had 18 at intermission. Rahshann Lewter added 16 points and 10 assists, while Morton had 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds. Tamara Davis was the leading rebounder on the night with 11 adding five assists and five steals.
Apprentice School held the Lady Bears to 23.3% shooting from the floor (20-of-86), while the victors were just under 50% hitting 49.2% (32-of-65) from the floor.
Next up for the Lady Builders is a matchup in Long Island on Sunday afternoon against Briarcliffe College at 1 pm.
