NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Freshman Tamara Davis scored 14 points and senior Rahshann Lewter added 11 as The Apprentice School made a second half surge but fell short in a 59-53 loss to NCAA Division II Cheyney University on Saturday afternoon.

In the first half the Wolves used a 10-0 spurt over a nearly three minute period to take a 24-11 lead on a free throw from Gaelan Quinton with 9:22 left.  Apprentice School answered with a 19-5 run to close the half holding a 32-29 lead.  Davis hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 63 seconds left to tie the game at 29-all, then senior Upenda Morton answered with a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 10 seconds left to give Apprentice School the halftime lead.

The second half saw three ties and three lead changes in an 11 minute span.  Apprentice School held a 43-38 lead with 14:52 left as Lewter found freshman LaTorya Grimes for a baseline jumper.  Cheyney used a 14-4 spurt over the next eight minutes to hold a 52-47 lead on a free throw by Lutifiyya Muhammed with 6:35 left.  From there, the Wolves hot enough free throws to keep the Lady Builders at arms length.

The Lady Builders return to action on Friday as they start a two-game swing in South Carolina by facing Erskine College at 5:30 pm.
