DUE WEST, SC - Sophomore Valleri West had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Apprentice School fell to the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 86-76 in a Friday night matchup.
Apprentice School trailed in the game by four with a minute remaining, but the Flying Fleet hit enough free throws in the last minute to pull out to the final 10-point margin.
Erskine was led again by Audrey Timmerman who blistered the nets for six 3-pointers in the first half on her way to a 33-point night. Timmerman went 8-for-14 from the field, including 7-for-12 from 3-point land and hit all 10 of her free throws. Mary Ann Langford and Porsha Morgan scored 15 points each for Erskine (5-0).
For the Lady Builders, West led the way with the only
double-double of the evening as she earned 14 points and pulled
down 10 rebounds. Upenda Morton, Rahshann Lewter, and Shameka
Warren had 13 points for the Lady Builders.
The Lady Builders out-rebounded the Fleet 44-34 resulting in 23
second chance points to Erskine's 9. But Erskine outscored
Apprentice from behind the arc, 24-9, and from the free throw line,
14-3.
Apprentice School will now travel to Tigerville, SC and face North Greenville University on Saturday at 2 pm.
