NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Senior Rahshann Lewter scored a season-high 24 points and freshman Tamara Davis added 13 points and matched her season high with 14 rebounds as the Apprentice School fell 79-64 to NCAA Division II Mount Olive College on Wednesday.
The Trojans opened the game strong outscoring the Lady Builders 13-3 in the first 5:27 capping that start on a 3-pointer from Shequanta McGee. Apprentice School answered with a 14-4 run of its own to tie the game at 17-all on a jumper from Valleri West with 9:47 left in the half.
After trading buckets for a couple minutes, the Trojans broke the game open with an 18-2 run over a five minute span to take a 38-20 lead on a Laporsha Davis jumper with 2:02 remaining.
In the second half, the Trojans kept Apprentice School at arms-length never letting the lead get lower than 13 points.
Freshman LaTorya Grimes added 11 points and five rebounds for the Lady Builders who outrebounded Mount Olive 44-37. Helen Moore paced four in double figures for Mount Olive (5-1) with 18 points.
On Saturday, the Lady Builders travel to Petersburg for a first-time matchup with the Virginia State Trojans at 2 pm. VSU is receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division II Top 25 poll.
