MEDIA, PA. -- Penn State Brandywine used a 25-7 run over an eight-minute span of the second half and blistering shooting from the field to pull away from the Apprentice School for an 83-77 win on Saturday afternoon in the Penn State Brandywine/USCAA Classic.
Apprentice School held a one-point lead at half and pushed it to 42-36 on a Denise Hamilton jumper with 16:47 left. The hosts then went on its run to take a 61-49 advantage on an Amanda Congialdi jumper with 8:17 remaining.
Though the lead grew to 15 points with 97 seconds left, the Lady Builders did make a final push as Arynn Easom connected on a 3-point play and a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 80-71 with 53 seconds left. Penn State Brandywine went 3-fof-4 from the foul line in the last 17 seconds though to ice the win.
The hosts shot 19-of-37 from the floor (51.4%) in the second half and drilled 7-of-10 (70%) from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes. They were paced by Amber Chandler with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
Apprentice School (7-2) was topped by Easom with 16 points, Tysheka Simpson with 13 points and Hamilton with 12. As a team, they shot 30-of-68 from the floor (44.1%) and 6-of-12 (50%) from 3-point range.
Next up for the Lady Builders will be a Friday night matchup with Averett in Danville, Va. at 5 pm.
