18-8 Run Sinks Lady Builders In 68-59 Loss At Averett

DANVILLE, VA. – After a tightly contested first half, Averett University outscored the Apprentice School 18-8 over the last 7:32 on Friday night to take a 68-59 victory at the Grant Center in Danville.

Jasmine Pringle hit a 3-pointer with 7:32 left to put the Apprentice School (7-3) up 51-50 which turned into the last lead for the Lady Builders on the night.  Mette Scheiman scored six straight points for Averett on a 3-pointer and a 3-point play over the next 49 seconds to put Averett ahead 57-52.

Apprentice School cut the deficit to 58-55 with 4:37 left on a 3-pointer from Ashley Johnson, but the Cougars responded with six straight points to take a 64-55 lead on a Kaneshia Slade jumper with 2:02 left.  From there the teams traded points for the 68-59 final.

Tysheka Simpson scored 15 points while Arynn Easom added 11 and Johnson chipped in 10 points for Apprentice School who hit 23-of-55 from the floor (41.8%) and drained a season-high eight 3-pointers.  Averett was topped by Ashley Washington with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Scheiman added 16 points and Slade scored 12.

Next up for the Lady Builders will be Washington & Lee University on December 30 at 5 pm at Apprentice Gym.
