Lady Builders Snap Skid With 97-51 Win Over N.C. Wesleyan

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Sophomore Tysheka Simpson scored 21 points to lead five Lady Builders in double figures as Apprentice School snapped a four-game losing skid with a 97-51 win over N.C. Wesleyan College on Wednesday night.

After a tight first six minutes where N.C. Wesleyan came to within two points on a Samantha Urquhart jumper with 13:45 left to make the score 14-12.  The Lady Builders went on a 10-0 run over the next 2:09 to take a 24-12 lead on a 3-pointer from Christina Licano

N.C. Wesleyan had a spurt left where they answered with a 7-0 run over the next 3:02 cutting the deficit to 24-17 on a Linesha Tinsley jumper with 8:34 left.  From that point, the Lady Builders closed the half on a 25-5 run as a Tamara Davis layup at the buzzer put Apprentice School ahead 49-22.

In the second half, Apprentice School blew the game wide open holding the Batting Bishops scoreless over a 6:28 span as a Denise Hamilton jumper capped the 18-0 run with 7:55 left putting Apprentice School up 82-37.

Courtney Collins had a double-double for Apprentice School  with 16 points and a season-high 10 rebounds, while Jasmine Pringle had a season high 13 points.  Scoring 11 points each were Licano and Hamilton.  The 11 points for Licano were a season best along with her team-high six assists.  As a team, the Lady Builders shot a season-best 58.3% from the floor (35-of-60) and hit a season-best 10 3-pointers.  The last time Apprentice School hit 10 3-pointers in a game was in a road win at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on January 20, 2008.

N.C. Wesleyan was paced by Urquhart with 16 points while Tinsley added 10 points off the bench.  The Battling Bishops shot 31.3% from the floor (21-of-67) and were out-rebounded by Apprentice School 51-27.

The Lady Builders now go to instate-rival Southern Virginia University on Saturday for a noon contest in Buena Vista.
