Basketball Teams Host 2011 Martin Luther King Jr. Classic

The 2011 Martin Luther King Jr. Classic begins tonight at Apprentice School gym with a pair of basketball games starting at 6 pm.

In the opener, the Apprentice School Lady Builders will take on Rhema Bible College Lady Eagles from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in the first ever matchup between the teams.  Apprentice School (8-5) enters after losing 56-42 on Saturday at Southern Virginia, while Rhema Bible (5-9) defeated West Oklahoma State 75-63 at home on Saturday.

The 8 pm game will pit the men of Rhema Bible (5-14) against the Sabers of Barber-Scotia College (4-7) from Concord, N.C.  Rhema lost on Saturday night at Philander Smith 92-57, while Barber-Scotia hasn't played a game since December 4 when they lost 82-55 at Voorhees College.

Friday starts a four-game day as Rhema takes on Robert Morris University Springfield in a doubleheader with the women at 2 and the men play at 4.  Robert Morris split a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Lindenwood-Belleville as the women (10-6) won 73-67, while the men (9-9) lost 91-61.  Following that doubleheader the Apprentice School women take on Bennett College (4-3) at 6 pm.  The nightcap will see the Apprentice School men hit the home floor for the first time this season as they have a rematch with Barber-Scotia College.  Those teams played December 3 in Concord, N.C. as the Builders took home an 80-62 win.

Saturday's schedule also begins at 2 pm with Robert Morris taking on Barber-Scotia in men's action.  Rhema will then play the next two games as their women take on Bennett at 4, while the men will face Apprentice School at 6 pm.  The nightcap Saturday will have the Lady Builders take on Robert Morris University Springfield in a battle of two teams ranked in the top six in the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association.

The classic will conclude on Sunday as the women of Robert Morris take on Bennett at noon, while the Apprentice School men will face Robert Morris at 2 pm.
