Lady Builders Rally In Second Half To Knock Off St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 66-59

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior Jasmine Pringle hit a pair of 3-pointers in a key 8-0 run in the second half and iced the game with four free throws in the final 15 seconds as Apprentice School defeated St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 66-59 in a key U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup Saturday night.

St. Joseph's held a 40-33 lead with 14:01 left on a pair of Megan Moran free throws before the Pringle 8-0 run began.  She hit a 3-pointer with 13:45 left cutting the deficit to 40-36 and followed with a pair of foul shots 21 seconds later making the deficit 40-38.  After a turnover she hit another 3-pointer off a feed from Tysheka Simpson to give Apprentice School a 41-40 lead with 13:12 left.

The Lady Builders held as much as a seven-point lead in the second half before the Lady Bears clawed back into the game and took a 57-56 lead on a jumper from Ashley McQuillan with 2:20 left.  Apprentice School regained the lead on a foul line jumper from Ashley Johnson with 2:01 left.  A jumper from Simpson with 1:10 left gave Apprentice School a 60-57 advantage.

Christina Licano drained a pair of free throws to put Apprentice School up 62-57 with 31.1 seconds left before the hosts scored a layup from Caitlyn Kakavas with 24 seconds left bringing them to within three points 62-59.  Pringle hit a pair of foul shots with 15 seconds left and after stealing an inbounds pass hit a pair with four seconds left to ice the win.

Simpson was the leading scorer for Apprentice School with 18 points, while Pringle added 12 points and Denise Hamilton chipped in 10.  The Lady Builders ended the game hitting 23-of-56 from the field (41.1%) and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the foul line.

St. Joseph's (7-11) was topped by Janine Doran with 14, Moran with 13 and McQuillan with 10.  They shot 22-of-64 (34.4%) from the field and 13-of-20 (65%) from the foul line.

Apprentice School (12-5) now travels to Seaford, NY to face Briarcliffe College at 1 pm on Sunday.  The Lady Builders defeated Briarcliffe 76-70 in the Great Ships Tipoff back on November 19.
