Lady Builders Rally But Fall 77-71 At N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Juniors Denise Hamilton and Tamara Davis scored 18 and 17 points respectively for the Apprentice School on Wednesday night but an early 27-10 deficit proved too much to overcome as they lost 77-71 at N.C. Wesleyan.

The hosts scored the first 10 points of the game as a Davis 3-pointer put the Lady Builders on the scoreboard with 16:26 left down 10-3.  N.C. Wesleyan pushed the advantage out to 27-10 with 10:53 left on a Desiree Driver layup.  Apprentice School closed the half on a 12-4 run to bring the deficit down to 39-36 on a Hamilton 3-pointer with six seconds left.

In the second half, the Lady Builders used a 13-3 run over a 6:14 span to take their first advantage of the night on a Hamilton jumper with 10:56 left to lead 54-50.  Apprentice School held a couple more four-point leads, but couldn't sustain the advantage.  The last four-point lead came with 6:52 left on a pair of Tysheka Simpson free throws to lead 60-56.  N.C. Wesleyan responded with a 13-2 run over the ensuing 5:06 to lead 69-62 on a Monet Edwards free throw with 1:46 left.

The Lady Builders return home now on Saturday to face in-state rival Southern Virginia University in a 2 pm tipoff at Apprentice Gym.

NOTE: The Apprentice School's game with Washington Adventist University that was postponed on Jan. 26 due to a snowstorm was rescheduled for February 12 at 6:30 pm at Washington Adventist in Takoma Park, Md.
