Lady Builders Knock Off Washington Adventist 60-41

TAKOMA PARK, MD. -- Freshman Danita Whitaker scored 16 points and fellow freshman Courtney Collins added 10 points as the Apprentice School knocked off NCAA Division II Washington Adventist University 60-41 on Saturday night in a USCAA matchup.

The Lady Builders jumped out of the gate quickly scoring the first nine points of the game with a Collins layup putting them up 9-0 at the 16 minute mark.  That lead grew to 23-8 with 7:14 left on a Denise Hamilton layup.  The hosts closed the half outscoring Apprentice School 12-5 to cut the deficit to 28-20 on a layup from Vanessa Rice.

In the second half, the hosts opened with an 11-4 run to get the deficit down to 32-31 on a jumper from Roneth Bubb with 12:29 left.  Apprentice School shut the hopes of the Shock with an ensuing run of 18-2 to push the lead to 50-33 on a Collins jumper with 5:02 left.

Nearly joining Whitaker and Collins in double figures for Apprentice School (14-8) was Ashley Johnson and Hamilton with nine each.  Tamara Davis topped the Lady Builders on the boards with nine and also had four steals on the game.

These teams will face each other in the regularly-scheduled contest on Monday night at Apprentice Gym starting at 6 pm.  This was a makeup from a postponed game on January 26.
