Lady Builders Cruise To 82-54 Win Over Washington Adventist

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- Freshman Danita Whitaker matched her career high with 21 points and junior Denise Hamilton added 19 as the Apprentice School jumped out early and never looked back in an 82-54 victory over Washington Adventist on Monday night.

The game was tied twice in the first three minutes as an Angelica Nevarez layup brought the Shock even at 8-all with 16:43 left.  From there the Lady Builders scored the next six points to lead 14-8 on a Courtney Collins jumper with 14:26 left.

Washington Adventist kept the deficit under seven points for the next five minutes and cut it down to 23-18 on a pair of Rebecca Lee free throws with 9:43 left.  The Lady Builders closed the half on a 16-6 run to lead 39-24 on a Collins stickback with 22 seconds left in the half.

To start the second half Apprentice School went on a 10-2 run to take a 49-26 advantage on a Whitaker layup with 16:56 left.  From there, the lead grew to as many as 31 points.

Following Whitaker and Hamilton in scoring was Ashley Johnson and Tyisha Battle with nine points each, while Collins and Jasmine Pringle chipped in with eight each.  For the night, Apprentice School hit 34-of-76 from the floor (44.7%) and outrebounded Washington Adventist 52-35.  Christina Licano topped the team with seven assists, while Collins and Hamilton had five each as the Lady Builders matched a season high with 24 assists.

Washington Adventist was paced by Vanessa Rice with a team high 21 points, while Nevarez added 13 and Rebecca Lee had 12 coming off the bench.

Apprentice School is now idle for the next 11 days and will close out the regular season by hosting Berkeley College, NJ on February 26 at 2 pm.
