Lady Builders Roll 85-45 Over Christendom In Great Ships Classic

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Junior Jasmine Pringle scored 17 points to lead three in double figures as the Apprentice School used a 23-0 run over a seven minute span to run away from visiting Christendom 85-45 in the opening round of the 2011 Great Ships Classic Friday night.

The Crusaders hung around in the first six minutes trailing 12-9 on a pair of Bridget Vander Woude free throws with 13:25 left.  Apprentice School started its run with a free throw from Tamara Davis and ended with a pair of Shanae Hilliard layups, the last one coming with 6:40 left to lead 35-9.

In the second half, the Lady Builders scored the first 11 points to take a 61-18 lead on a Danita Whitaker layup with 16:33 left which turned into the largest lead of the game.  Christendom went on an 8-0 run over the next 4:30 to cut the margin to 61-26 on a Morgan Kavanaugh jumper with 12:03 left. 

Denise Hamilton added 12 points and Shanae Hilliard chipped in 10 points and five rebounds to lead Apprentice School.  The Lady Builders hot 37-of-68 from the floor (54.4%) and outrebounded Christendom 48-27.  KAvanaugh topped Christendom (1-2) with 26 points.

Apprentice School (4-0) will finish the Great Ships Classic on Saturday hosting Penn State Fayette at 3 pm.  Southern Virginia, who defeated Penn State Fayette 109-58 in the opener, will take on Christendom at 1 pm.
