The latest U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Coaches Poll was announced on Monday and both Apprentice School basketball teams remained in the top three of the rankings.
Through games of January 11, the men’s team dropped a spot to third in the top 20 behind co-leaders Ave Maria University and Rochester College. Ave Maria made the largest leap of the week jumping from fifth to a share of the top after defeating the Builders in the finals of the Ave Maria/USCAA classic 88-64 on January 7. Apprentice School (13-3) has won eight of its last nine games and will be on the road this weekend to face a pair of NAIA Division I opponents from South Carolina in Morris College on Saturday and Voorhees College on Sunday.
The Lady Builders remained ranked second in the poll behind defending USCAA National Champion Ave Maria University as those two teams have held the top two spot in all six polls thus far. Apprentice School (14-1) will have three games this week starting on Wednesday night at home against in-state rival and seventh-ranked Southern Virginia at 6 pm. This weekend they’ll travel to North Carolina to face 19th-ranked Bennett College on Saturday and a rematch with Barber-Scotia College on Sunday afternoon.
