Lady Builders Hit 18-1 With 63-51 Win Over Washington Adventist

TAKOMA PARK, MD. – Sophomore Courtney Collins had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead three in double figures on Wednesday night as the Apprentice School defeated Washington Adventist University 63-51 in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup.

For the Lady Builders, it was their eighth straight win which raised their record to 18-1 on the year.  Washington Adventist, who is also a NCAA Division II school, saw their record fall to 3-11 on the season.

A slow starting first half saw the Lady Builders jump out to a 13-3 lead with a Jasmine Pringle free throw.  Washington Adventist cut it to eight on three occasions, before a 9-2 flurry over a four minute span put the Lady Builders up 27-12 on a Collins free throw with 3:44 left.  A layup from Andrea Wilson with 2:39 left turned into the final points of the first half as the Apprentice School took a 27-14 lead into the locker room.

In the second half the lead stayed in the 15-18 point range for the first ten minutes as Collins jumper with 11:18 left put Apprentice School ahead 41-24.  Over the next six minutes, the Lady Builders outscored the Shock 16-8 to take a 57-32 lead on a Denise Hamilton free throw with 5:06 left.  The hosts made one last dash following a Tamara Davis free throw that put Apprentice School up 61-37 with 3:07 left, the Shock scored the next 14 points to make the margin 61-51 on a pair of Kristina Murphy free throws with 19 seconds left.  Davis stopped that spell with a pair of foul shots with seven seconds left for the win.

Hamilton added 11 points and six rebounds for the Lady Builders, while Pringle chipped in with 10 points.  The Apprentice School warmed up in the second half hitting just under 50% from the field (13-of-27/48.1%) and ended the game hitting 43.1% from the field (22-of-51) and 17-of-24 from the foul line (70.8%).  On the boards the Lady Builders held a 39-34 advantage.

Apprentice School now has a week off prior to a big rematch on February 1 at in-state USCAA rival Southern Virginia.  These teams played on January 18 as the Lady Builders scored a 67-61 win.
