Lady Builders Run Away From Bennett In 67-32 Win

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- Great Ships Classic Most Valuable Player Danita Whitaker had 11 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high seven steals as the Apprentice School defeated Bennett College 67-32 in the final game of the 2012 Great Ships Classic on Saturday.

The 32 points allowed are the fewest in a game for the Lady Builders under sixth-year head coach Lanica Williams-Tallon.

Mariah Newborn's layup with 12:50 left gave Bennett a 4-3 advantage which was the last lead they had in the game.  Apprentice School went on a 15-0 run to take an 18-4 lead on a Whitaker layup with 8:50 left in the opening half.  

In the second half, Apprentice School used an 18-5 run midway through the half to push the lead to 58-28 on a Shanae Hilliard jumper with just under six minutes left.  

April McCoy was the leading scorer for Apprentice School with 14 points, while Michelle Brockman joined Whitaker with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Joining Whitaker on the All-Classic team was junior Christina Licano who had four assists and four steals on Saturday.

Apprentice School now goes on the road to Rocky Mount, NC to face North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday, November 27 at 5:30 pm.
