Lady Builders Hit Lynchburg For Hill City Classic

The Apprentice School Lady Builders are in the middle of their tournament month this weekend as they travel to Lynchburg, Va. for the first Hill City Classic hosted by Virginia University of Lynchburg at the Lynchburg City Armory.

On Saturday afternoon, Apprentice School will take on NAIA member Bluefield College in the opening game of the classic.  Bluefield enters the game with a 9-3 record after defeating Allen College (SC) 71-31 on December 9.  They have three players averaging in double figures topped by Teqa McNeal (15.4 ppg), closely followed by Ashley White (14.4 ppg) and Janee Simmons (10.8 ppg and team best 6.6 rpg).  These teams have met one time previously with Bluefield taking a 61-57 win on Feb. 19, 2010 at Hampton University.

The next day, the Lady Builders will face perennial U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association tournament participant the University of Cincinnati-Clermont.  This will be the first-time meeting with the Cougars from Batavia, Ohio.  They enter the weekend with an 8-9 record after splitting a pair of games against NAIA member Berea College (L 70-75) and Sinclair CC (W 85-50) earlier this week.

The Lady Builders enter the weekend with a 5-2 record after a pair of wins in the Penn State Brandywine Classic.  Junior April McCoy leads the team in scoring (13.7 ppg) and is second in rebounding (8.9 rpg).  Fellow junior Danita Whitaker is second in scoring (10.1 ppg) and leads in rebounding (9.9 rpg).  Each put up a pair of double-doubles last weekend at the Brandywine Classic as Whitaker hauled in 17 rebounds against Brandywine and 18 the next day against Central Penn College for her career highs.

This will close out the pre-Christmas schedule for the Lady Builders who will return to action on December 29-30 at the York College (PA) Coaches vs. Cancer Classic when they'll face NCAA Division III member The College of New Jersey at 8 pm on December 29.
