Bluefield Pulls Away In Second Half For 84-52 Win Over Lady Builders

LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Bluefield College, who entered the game ranked fifth in the National Christian College Athletic Association poll, shot 54% in the second half and pulled away from the Apprentice School for an 84-52 win in the Hill City Classic on Saturday at the Lynchburg City Armory.

The first half saw the Lady Builders stay around with the Rams trailing 13-12 at the ten minute mark, but Bluefield found its stride in the final stages of the half outscoring Apprentice School 26-15 to take a 39-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Bluefield turned up the pressure and forced the Lady Builders into a 10-for-28 performance from the field (35.7%) and outscored them 45-25 to pull away for the win.

Freshman Kenya Wilkerson topped the Apprentice School in scoring with 14 points, while junior Danita Whitaker added 11 and seven rebounds.  Janee Simmons paced three in double figures for Bluefield with 19 points.

Apprentice School (5-3) will return to action at 2 pm on Sunday against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont in the final day of the Hill City Classic hosted by Virginia University of Lynchburg.
