LYNCHBURG, VA. -- The Apprentice School Lady Builders fell victim to a 16-4 run in the first 6:20 of the second half and lost on Sunday to University of Cincinnati-Clermont 71-69 in the final day of the Hill City Classic at the Lynchburg Armory.
After jumping out to a 39-28 halftime lead on the strength of hitting 17-of-34 from the field, the Apprentice School went cold in the second as they hit 12-of-29 (41.4%) while the Cougars were just under 50% from the floor (16-of-33/48.5%) but hit 5-of-9 from 3-point range (55.6%).
Trailing by 63-54 with five minutes left, the Lady Builders made a last ditch effort as they cut the deficit down to 69-65 with 39 seconds but couldnt get closer than the final margin.
Tysheka Simpson topped the Lady Builders with 18 points, Danita Whitaker had another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Christina Licano had 12 points and four assists. Clermont was topped by Ashley Keith with a game-high 23 points.
Apprentice School (5-4) is now off until December 29 when they face The College of New Jersey at the York College (PA) Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
