Lady Builders Lose 70-64 To Wheaton (MA) In Third-Place Game Of Coaches Vs. Cancer Tournament

YORK, PA. – Freshman Kenya Wilkerson scored a career high 24 points as the Apprentice School fell to Wheaton College (MA) 70-64 in the third place game at the York College Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Builders went on a 20-6 run midway in the first half to take a 31-28 lead on a Tysheka Simpson layup with 3:20 left.  Wheaton closed the half on an 8-1 run to lead 36-32 on a Kiley Shoemaker layup with 46 seconds left.

The Lyons scored the first four points of the second half as Shoemaker hit a pair of free throws with 18:40 left to push the advantage to 40-32.  Apprentice School cut the lead to five with 96 seconds left as Wilkerson hit a layup.  She scored the final eight points for the Lady Builders en route to her career high 24 points.

Wheaton was paced by Shoemaker with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead three Lyons in double figures. 

Joining Wilkerson in double figures for the Lady Builders was Simpson who scored 16 points and Shanae Hilliard adding 10.  Simpson was named to All-Tournament team at conclusion of the event.

Apprentice School (5-6) will now face in-state rival Southern Virginia University on January 8 in Buena Vista, Va.
