Second Half Run Leads St Joseph's-Brooklyn Over Lady Builders 74-63

BROOKLYN, NY – Samantha Retas scored 23 points and hauled in 12 rebounds as the homestanding St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Lady Bears pulled away in the second half and took a 74-63 win over the Apprentice School on Saturday night at Brooklyn Tech High School.

The first half saw three ties as a Shanae Hlliard jumper evened the score at 27 with 3:58 left.  A layup from April McCoy with 3:36 left gave the Lady Builders what turned into their final lead of the game at 29-27.  From there, St. Joseph's went on a 9-2 run to close the half and take a 36-29 lead on a Retas 3-point play with 35 seconds left in the first half.

A jumper from Hilliard to start the second half brought the Apprentice School to 36-31 but that seemed to ignite the Lady Bears.  Teresa Mangan hit a pair of 3-pointers from St. Joseph's to push the advantage to 42-31 with 19:01 left.  Those 3-pointers started a 13-4 run to put St. Joseph's ahead 49-35 on a pair of Mangan free throws with 13:34 left.  From there, the Lady Builders got the deficit back down to the halftime margin of seven points on a Hilliard free throw with 6:07 left but could get no closer.

Hilliard set career highs in points (22) and rebounds (15) to lead the Lady Builders.  Joining her in the double-double club was junior Danita Whitaker with 11 points and 15 rebounds.  They were the lone double figure scorers for Apprentice School (5-9).

Joining Retas in double figures for St. Joseph's was Mangan with 19 points, Taylor Raccuglia with 15 and Janine Doran joined Retas in double figures in rebounds with a game-high 16.
