Apprentice Hoopsters Earn USCAA Player Of The Week Honors

The Apprentice School basketball teams were recognized for a perfect weekend during the 2013 Martin Luther King Classic as senior Tevin Andrews and junior Danita Whitaker were named U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's and Women's Players of the Week on Tuesday.

Andrews, who earned his second USCAA Player of the Week honor, averaged 19.7 points and 10 rebounds per game as the men won all three games in the MLK Classic.  The Pike County, AL. native hauled in a career-high 19 rebounds in the 78-69 win over Barber-Scotia College to go with 25 points.  He currently ranked sixth in the USCAA in scoring (18.6 ppg) and in rebounds (9.4 rpg).

Whitaker, earning her first USCAA honor this year, averaged 20 points and 15.5 rebounds in a pair of Lady Builder wins in the MLK Classic.  The native of Rocky Mount, NC had 26 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a 76-51 win over Berkeley College on Friday night.  Two days later she had 14 points and 15 rebounds as the Lady Builders defeated Briarcliffe 68-52.  She is currently ranked seventh in the USCAA in rebounding at 10.9 per game.

The Lady Builders (8-10) return to action on Wednesday night when they host NCAA Division II Washington Adventist University in a 6 pm tip.  On Saturday, the men's team will return to action as Apprentice School (13-6) visits in-state rival Southern Virginia University at 2 pm.
