TAKOMA PARK, MD. – Junior Danita Whitaker scored 24 points, hauled in 14 rebounds and hit a free throw with seven seconds left to help ice a 58-56 Apprentice School win at NCAA Division II Washington Adventist on Wednesday night.

The homestanding Lady Shock opened the game on a 7-0 run, but the Lady Builders responded with a 15-4 run to take a 15-11 lead with 14:18 left on a jumper from April McCoy.  Neither team held more than a four-point lead for the rest of the first half as Washington Adventist closed the half on a 6-2 flurry over the final 5:53 to take a 30-26 lead on a Briana McClain jumper with 1:50 left.

In the second half, the Lady Builders took their first lead on a Whitaker layup with just under 16 minutes left to lead 36-34.  After Whitaker went 1-for-2 at the line, a Jerria Brown-McDaniel layup with 13:47 left brought the hosts to within one at 37-36. 

From there, the Lady Builders went on a 14-4 run over the next 4:51 to lead 51-40 on a Whitaker jumper with 8:56 left.  The hosts weren't going away quietly as they chipped away and got back to 57-56 on a Briana McClain free throw with nine seconds left.  Whitaker grabbed the rebound on McClain's second attempt and went 1-for-2 with seven seconds left to put Apprentice School up 58-56.  A defensive stand forced a Lady Shock turnover and the Lady Builders held on for the win.

Joining Whitaker in double figures was McCoy with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.   Vanessa Rice topped Washington Adventist (6-19) with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while McClain added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Apprentice School (11-13) closes out its season on Sunday with Senior Day at 2 pm when they host Virginia University of Lynchburg.
