NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- The Apprentice School Lady Builders closed out their 2012-13 season on Sunday with a 21-3 run to start the second half and defeat Virginia University of Lynchburg 64-50 on Senior Day.

The hosts never trailed in the game as they opened the contest with a 13-3 run over the first four minutes to lead 13-3 on a Shanae Hilliard layup with 15:57 left.  Virginia University of Lynchburg cut the lead down to three twice with a Lashera Brown layup at the eight minute mark bringing the Lady Dragons to 19-16.

Apprentice School took the lead back to eight points as Kenya Wilkerson went one-of-two at the foul line with 1:20 left to lead 30-22.  The Lady Dragons cut that margin in half at halftime to trail 32-28 on a 3-point play from Diamynde Daniel with 29 seconds left.

To start the second half, the Lady Builders put away any shot of the Lady Dragons starting off scoring the first 13 points as senior Tysheka Simpson drained a couple 3-pointers in that run.  The run grew to 21-3 as Simpson hit a pair of free throws with 11:43 left to put the Lady Builders ahead 53-31.

VUL, who entered on an eight-game winning streak, cut the lead in half as Daniel hit a layup with 69 seconds left cutting the lead to 59-48.  That was as close as the lead got as Wilkerson hit a pair of free throws with five seconds left for the final 64-50.

Simpson was the leading scorer in her final Apprentice School game with 16 points and six rebounds, while Whitaker added 14 points and Wilkerson had 13 points, six rebounds and nine assists.
