Hot Shooting Ferrum Rolls To 79-40 Win Over Lady Builders

LOCATION: Swartz Gym - Ferrum, VA.

ON THE COURT: Junior Shanae Hilliard scored 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers as the Apprentice School fell to NCAA Division III 22nd-ranked Ferrum College 79-40 on Sunday afternoon in Ferrum.

The Panthers opened the game with a blast racing out to a 14-0 lead as Katy Kipps connected on a pair of free throws with 15:25 left in the half.  Apprentice School responded with a 20-7 run to get back into the contest as Hilliard drained three straight 3-pointers to close the run bring them to 21-20 with 10:13 left

That was as close as the Lady Builders got as Ferrum closed the half on a 17-3 run to lead 38-23.  In the second half, the Panthers hit 16-of-29 from the floor (55.2%) and 6-of-11 (54.5%) from 3-point range to pull away.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • This was the second straight game for Hilliard to hit five 3-pointers as she did that against Maine-Fort Kent on Wednesday night.  That matched her career high she had against Berkeley College last year in New York.
  • Bria Hill set a career-high in rebounds as she topped the team with eight on Sunday.
  • The loss saw the end of the Lady Builders five-game winning streak.

NEXT UP

The Lady Builders will return to action on Friday night at 5:30 pm when they face Bennett College in the opening game of the 2014 Martin Luther King Classic.  This will be the first game in the NEW Apprentice Athletic Center. 

In between games, fans need to stay in place for a special ceremony honoring the national championship winning teams and individuals for the Apprentice School.
