Lady Builders Christen New Gym With 95-34 Win Over Bennett

ON THE COURT: Senior Courtney Collins scored 20 points to lead three in double figures as the Apprentice School Lady Builders christened their new gymnasium on Friday night with a 95-34 win over Bennett College in the opening round of the 2014 Martin Luther King Classic.

The Lady Builders opened the game on a 9-2 spurt as a pair of Kelsey Daniels free throws with 15:11 left gave them a seven-point advantage.

Bennett made a little flurry cutting the margin to 13-8 on a pair of Aaliyah Carter free throws with 13:13 left.

Apprentice School blew the game open going on a 26-3 run to take a 41-11 lead with 6:15 left on a jumper from Jessica Neighbors.  The lead grew to as much as 35 points in the first half as a 3-pointer from Brittanie Herriott with 23 seconds left gave the Lady Builders a 54-19 halftime advantage.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Collins was 9-for-11 from the floor with six rebounds and three assists to lead the team.
  • Freshman Julissa Riddick had a double-double with a career-high 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Senior April McCoy added another double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high six assists.
  • Apprentice School forced 33 turnovers and out-rebounded the Belles 54-24.
  • The Lady Builders hit 41-of-84 from the floor (48.8%), 4-of-14 from 3-point range (28.6%), 9-of-16 from the foul line (56.3%).
  • Bennett was paced by Aaliyah Carter and Quanisha Brown with nine points each.

Apprentice School faces Briarcliffe on Sunday at 3 pm in the final game of the MLK Classic.  Bennett takes on Briarcliffe at 2 pm on Saturday.
