Wilkerson, Watkins Named USCAA Players Of The Week

The Apprentice School earned two United States Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week awards on Tuesday as women's basketball junior Kenya Wilkerson and wrestling sophomore Ty Watkins were honored by the association.

Watkins, a rigger apprentice from Burns, OR., went 2-0 at the Virginia Duals winning both matches by fall as the Builders took seventh in the American College Division.  He won his first match over Gene Balcita of Liberty University in 3:57 and then won in 3:31 over Maxmillian Becks of University of Central Florida.  On the year he is 10-6 at 149 pounds.

Wilkerson, an electrician apprentice from Richmond, VA., nearly recorded consecutive triple-doubles as the Lady Builders won a pair of games in New York including a win over #7 St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn.  She had 15 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and seven steals in the Lady Builders 80-60 win over Briarcliffe College on Friday night.  The next day she had 13 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds in the 80-69 win over the Lady Bears.

The wrestling team returns to action at Woodside High School on Saturday with the annual Builder Invitational starting at 9 am.  Basketball teams return to the home hardwood as well this weekend with the annual Martin Luther King Classic starting on Friday night at 6 pm as the Lady Builders take on Briarcliffe.
