The Apprentice School Lady Builders announce their schedule for the 2016-17 season. The team will compete in four tournaments and will host thirteen home contest this season. The Lady Builders will face off against fellow USCAA members West Virginia Tech, Washington Adventist, Bluefield State College, Warren Wilson College and Alfred State University. The team will also square off against Rochester College, Carlow University, and Berea College, all of whom made the USCAA National Championships last season. The team will face other NCAA Division II and III schools that will be in the hunt for tournament berths which include Virginia State University, St. Augustine University, Elizabeth City State University, UNC Pembroke, Bridgewater College, and Voorhees College.
The Lady Builder season will include some new introductions to the schedule like Virginia Wesleyan College along with some familiar events like the Martin Luther King Classic. The Lady Builders will host Virginia Wesleyan on December 8th at 6:00 PM. This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams with the series tied at three games a piece. The MLK Classic will take place January 13-15 where the Lady Builders will take on Virginia University of Lynchburg and Thomas Nelson CC. The team will bring in the new year with a game against Christopher Newport University on January 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM. This will be the second time in three years that the Lady Builders played the Captains. Christopher Newport University won the last match-up 88-86 back in 2014.
The Lady Builders return two seniors, seven juniors, one sophomore and welcome seven newcomers to the team. Seniors, Courtney White, who averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds a game along with Jessica Neighbors, who scored 4.5 points per game and pulled in a total of 80 rebounds look to lead the Lady Builders to its 14th USCAA National Championship appearance. Junior, Ylexzis Traeger who lead the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) in 2015-16, will play a key role in the Lady Builder offense this season. The rest of the team along with the seven newcomers will help round out the Lady Builders championship hopes.
The Lady Builders open the 2016-17 season at home on November 17th at 5:00 PM against Virginia State University.
