Lady Builders Suffer 81-67 Setback to JWU

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - The Lady Builders could not overcome second half woes as they dropped a 81-67 home contest to Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon.

 

After trailing by five at the end of the first stanza, the Lady Builders used a 26 point second quarter to carry a five-point lead into the break. Coming out of the break, the Wildcats outscored the Lady Builders in the final two stanzas to pull away late with the victory.

 

ON THE COURT:

  • Alexis Wethington led the Lady Builders with 15 points. She also added eight rebounds for the team.
  • Aquazia Jones came close to notching a triple-double with 13 points, a game-high 18 rebounds, and seven assists. She also had a game-high four steals.
  • Alena Pauli-Pelham added 13 points.
  • Jamica Jones contributed 10 points off the bench.
  • JWU was led by Jamyah Montissol's game-high 30 points. 
  • Both teams forced 17 turnovers each and the Wildcats had a slight edge on the boards with a 49-46 advantage.

 

The Lady Builders wrap up their regular season with a Senior Day contest against Clinton College. Aquazia Jones, the lone senior on the squad, is 16 points from achieving the milestone of 1,000 points in her career.
