Apprentice School Women's Basketball Announces All Decade Teams

Newport News, VA - The Apprentice School Women's Basketball program has announced its All Decade Team. The selection committee consisted of Athletic Director Michael W. Allen, Associate Athletic Director Evan Kee, Athletic Trainer Sean Hanrahan and Former Apprentice Sports Information Director Jim Heath to bring you the Apprentice School Women's Basketball All Decade Team. Players eligible for consideration must have played a minimum of one season from 2009-2010 through the 2018-2019.

 

 Player of the Decade

Ylexzis Traeger(2014-2018) – Had an extremely successful career as a Lady Builder. Finished second all-time in career points scoring 1527 in 97 appearances. Her career scoring average of 15.7 points per game puts Traeger at a tie for third all time. Was a Three-time USCAA All-American having been named to the second team as a freshman, then first team as a junior and senior. Helped lead the Lady Builder to the USCAA National Tournament three times during her career.

All Decade Team Captain

 

Bri Hill (2012-2016) – Hill is the current head coach of the Lady Builders and enters her second season after being named the interim head coach mid-way through the 2019-2020 season. Coach Hill appeared in 90 games during her four-year career and averaged 3.3 points per contest. Coach Hill was named a USCAA Academic All-American her senior year and is highly respected in her role as a craft instructor at The Apprentice School.

 

All Decade First Team

Forward – Ylexzis Traeger(2014-2018) - The Three-time All-American made an instant impact and posted consistent numbers for four years. Traeger's best scoring average came in 2016-2017 when she averaged 17.9 points per game.

 

Forward – Courtney Collins (2010-2014) - Two-time USCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Collins poured in a 924 points in 71 games during her career and had a career scoring average of 13 points per game. Helped guide her team to a 22-5 record her senior year and an appearance in the Final Four of the USCAA National Tournament. Collins also served two seasons as an assistant coach in 2017-2018 & 2018-2019.  

 

 

Guard – Aquazia Jones (2016-2020) - Two-time USCAA First Team All-American. Qualified for the USCAA National Tournament in 2017-2018. Scored 1062 points in 95 career games. Best statistical season came in 2018-2019 when she averaged 17.1 points and 4.0 steals in 36.8 minutes per game. Her steal-per-game average in 2018-2019 of 4 per contest puts her in third place in the Lady Builders record book.

 

Guard – Shanae Hilliard (2011-2015) - Hilliard's game-winning half-court shot on 2/14/14 against Salem College was featured as a Top 10 play on ESPN. Was just short of reaching the 1000 point mark and finished her career with 996 points in 98 games. Holds the career record for 3-pointers made with 168 and has the top two records for 3-pointers made in a season. Shot a program-best 50% from 3-point range during her freshman season which is also another record she holds.

 

Guard – Kenya Wilkerson (2012-2016) – Two-time USCAA All-American (2013-2014 Honorable Mention; 2014-2015 First Team). Named to the VaSID All-State team in 2014-2015. Wilkerson finished her career totaling exactly 1000 points in 97 appearances. Her best statistical season came during the 2014-2015 season in which she averaged 12.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. Her 464 career assists place her in the record books as second of all-time.

All Decade Second Team

 

Guard – Tamara Davis (2008-2012) – Known as a fierce rebounder and competitor Davis is a one-time USCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Davis played an integral role on the 2011-2012 Lady Builder team that finished with an overall record of 23-4 including a perfect 14-0 record at home. Appeared in 81 career games and averaged 8.5 rebounds per game, which puts Davis in a tie for 4th place all-time. 

 

Forward – Danita Whitaker (2010-2014) – Was a USCAA Second Team All-American during the 2012-2013 season. During that season, Whitaker averaged 12.6 points & 10.9 rebounds per game. Whitaker, who played in 89 career games for the Lady Builders, helped lead her team to three different USCAA National Tournament appearances.  Her 759 career rebounds are good for fourth place in the all-time record book.

 

Forward – Quanisha Bruce (2014-2018) – 2017-2018 USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year recipient. Bruce played in 95 games during her four year career and pulled down 843 rebounds, which places her in third place all-time. Had a phenomenal senior season in 2017-18 in which she averaged a career-high 8.6 points to go along with 11.1 rebounds per game. The 2017-2018 Lady Builders also qualified for the USCAA National Tournament that season.  

   

Forward – Shameka Warren (2003-2010) – 2009-2010 USCAA All-American Honorable Mention. Warren played in 101 games during her career as a Lady Builder and pulled down 751 total rebounds; 7.4 per season. A true defensive anchor, Warren sits on top of the record books with a total of 174 blocked shots for her career. Had an extremely efficient senior season in which she shot 54.8% from the field, which increased he career percentage to 48.5%

 

Guard– Alexis Wethington (2017-Present) – 2018-2019 USCAA Second Team All-American. Wethington had a fantastic sophomore season for the Lady Builders. She almost averaged a double-double and had a stat line of 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She also distributed 3.2 assists per game and shot 44.2% from the field.
