Wrestlers Take Electric City Duals With Four Win Performance

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Apprentice School wrestling team started their 2010-11 season on an impressive note winning all four dual matches and the Electric City Duals title for the second straight year at the University of Scranton on Saturday.

Apprentice School (4-0) started the day with a matchup against National Collegiate Wrestling Association Mid-Atlantic Conference rival University of Maryland Baltimore County.  After winning the opening two bouts by decision, the Builders went into overdrive taking four of the next five bouts by pin en route to a 42-0 blanking of UMBC.

They followed that match with a dual against the Mustangs of Morrisville State (N.Y.) College.  The Mustangs jumped out winning two of the first three bouts to take an 8-3 lead, but the Builders responded with a pin by freshman Malachi Underwood and a major decision by junior Ricky Anderson as they defeated Morrisville State 29-8.

The next match put the Builders against another NCWA opponent in Penn State DuBois.  After falling in the opening bout, the Builders earned bonus point wins in seven if the final nine bouts to take a 38-3 win.  Anderson and sophomore Kevin Gray earned wins by pin with Anderson winning in 1:22 at 157, while Gray won in 6:23 at heavyweight.

In what turned into the championship match of the event, the Builders faced the host Royals.  A similar start to the previous two bouts for Apprentice School put them behind 9-0 after 133 pounds.  Junior William Sexton started the onslaught with a tech fall win at 141 pounds winning 15-0, while Underwood followed with another tech fall win at 149 pounds winning 20-5 to put Apprentice School ahead 10-9.  Anderson followed with this third win by pin on the day at 157 winning in 49 seconds as the Builders took a 38-9 victory over Scranton to win the title.

Anderson, freshman Willie Crawford and sophomore Stuart Roes all went 4-0 on the day for the Builders.  Going 3-0 on the day were Underwood, junior Anthony Damico (165 lbs) and junior Steven Ours (174 lbs.) went 3-0 each.

Next up for the Builders will be a trip to Charleston, S.C. and the Citadel Open on November 6.
