Wrestlers Have Four Take Top Five Finishes At Ursinus Fall Brawl

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. – The Apprentice School wrestling team traveled to Ursinus College on Saturday to compete in the Ursinus Fall Brawl and came away with four top five finishers in the 14-team event.  No team scores were kept in the tournament.

Junior Marcus Chevres took second at 133 pounds for the second tournament in a row as he went 4-1 on the day.  Chevres won his opening match over Alex Blank of Ursinus by fall in 5:10 and then knocked off Mark Loebeck of McDaniel also by fall in 2:20.  In the quarterfinals he defeated Mason Goretsas of the University of Maryland by a 9-5 decision before scoring a fall in 40 seconds in the semifinals over Dan Herr of The College of New Jersey.  He lost to Frank Goodwin of Maryland by fall in the finals to see his record go to 12-3 on the season.

Junior Ricky Anderson went 4-2 at 157 pounds to take fourth place.  He won his first three matches by fall scoring wins in 2:02 over Scott Kruse of Valley Forge Military Academy, in 4:10 over John Witham of Ursinus and in 37 seconds over Tom Boehm of McDaniel.  After losing to eventual champion Domenic Derobertis of Maryland in the semifinals, he defeated Witham again 12-2 before losing to Kyle Packer of The College of New Jersey for third place.  Anderson now has a record of 11-3.

Freshman Willie Crawford went 3-2 at 184 to take fifth place winning two matches by fall.  He defeated Christopher Robinson of Navy Prep by fall in 1:26 before losing to Nate Murren of Ursinus in the quarterfinals.  Crawford came through the wrestle back rounds to defeat Brad Thomas of McDaniel by an 8-7 decision and Jared Schlett of Gettysburg by fall in 1:58 before losing in the consolation semifinals.  He now has a record of 7-2.

Sophomore Jeremy Diley went 2-2 at heavyweight to finish fifth.  He scored wins over teammate Kevin Gray and Tom Dwyer of West Chester in the wrestle back rounds after losing in his opening match.  Diley now has a record of 4-4 on the year.

The Builders now travel to Orlando, Florida next weekend to participate in the Central Florida Duals on November 19 and the Central Florida Open on November 20.
