BALTIMORE, MD. -- The Apprentice School wrestling team went 5-1 on Saturday to win the University of Maryland Baltimore County Duals in Baltimore, Md. They lost to the host Retreivers 26-18 while winning five duals convincingly.
It went down to the final dual of the night as West Chester defeated UMBC 26-24 to have three teams finish at 5-1 - Apprentice School, West Chester and UMBC. On highest point differential in matches between the three teams, the Builders were declared team champions.
The Builders opened with a 49-6 win over Williamson Trade where after an opening loss at 125 pounds, the Builders won 10 of the final 11 bouts with Marcus Chevres (133) and Steven Ours (174) winning by fall.
The second match pitted the Builders against West Chester University. Apprentice School continued its run winning five of the first six bouts to take a comfortable 21-3 lead en route to a 32-15 win. Ricky Anderson (157) and Anthony Damico (165) won by fall against West Chester.
Against the host UMBC retreivers, the Builders only got a win by fall from Anderson at 157 to go with four decisions as they lost 26-18. Tyare Ford (125), Chevres, Damico and Stuart Roes won by decision for Apprentice School.
The final three duals for the Builders were victories over Delaware (60-0), Penn State New Kensington (55-6) and Southern Virginia (54-18) as the Builders lost only four bouts in those three duals.
On the day, Chevres and Anderson went 6-0 each, while Kevin Gray was 4-0, Patrick Love went 3-0 and Roes won his only bout to join the undefeated group.
Apprentice School (10-3) will close out the 2010 portion of its schedule next Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg against Lynchburg College at 5 pm.
