Wrestlers Open NCWA National Duals With Pair Of Wins

DALTON, GA. -- The Apprentice School opened action on Friday night in the 2011 National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Dual Championships with a pair of wins to advance to the fourth round of the championship at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center.

Apprentice School (12-6) defeated Radford 51-6 in its opening match and then shutout East Tennessee State University 60-0 after earning a first-round bye as the third-seed in the 20-team event. 

The Builders opened the match with Radford as sophomore Ty Ford scored a 12-7 decision over Brian Britton to put the Builders up 3-0.  After no match at 133, junior Marcus Chevres went up to 141 pounds and scored a win by fall in 3:27 over Mike Eysaman to give the Builders a 9-0 lead.  His win started four wins in a row by fall for the Builders as Kyle Spruill won at 149 pounds (in 2:08), Ricky Anderson at 157 (in 4:16) and Anthony Damico at 165 (in 5:32) to give the Builders a 27-0 lead.  Apprentice School won four of the last five bouts by forfeit to take the 51-6 win over Radford. 

In their next match against ETSU, the Builders recorded a 60-0 blanking of the Buccaneers.  Ford opened with a fall in 18 seconds as the Builders alternated winning by fall or forfeit in the first five matches to take a 30-0 lead.  Damico won by a major decision at 165 pounds and Stuart Roes also won by major decision at 197 to sandwich a pair of wins by fall from Ours and Willie Crawford at 184 to take a 50-0 lead after 197.

The Builders will now take on Middle Tennessee State at 10:30 am on Saturday in the fourth round of the event.
